The Living Room, Chennai

The Living Room in Anna Nagar is a new restaurant and a pub opened recently and husband decided to take out for a lunch date to this new place as he has already visited and was raving about the place and the food. We went there on a weekday for lunch for two people. The place had well designed interiors and the seating was comfortable with wing chairs.

For the soup, we ordered Murgh Badami Shorba which is a creamy soup with tender chunks of chicken cooked in a rich almond and cream sauce that was bursting with flavor. Starters we had Vodka battered fish canopy which was a dish that we weren’t quite sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The fish was crispy and perfectly cooked, with a light batter that had a subtle hint of vodka. The dish was served with a salsa and taco that perfectly complemented the fish. The Wild Mushroom Crespelle was another standout dish. The crispy crepes were filled with a mix of mushrooms and cheese, this was quiet heavy and filling.

For main course we wanted to try South Indian and preferred Kozhi Milagu Curry which was a spicy curry with a pepper base and tender juicy chicken chunks. We had Idiyappam and white rice to accompany the curry. The steward mentioned that their potalam biryani is the special and preferred dish but they didn’t have the mutton biryani and had only chicken biryani during weekdays and its available only on weekends, will definitely need to try the mutton potalam biryani sometime (For me biryani is always mutton and I don’t consider chicken biryani as biryani 😛 )

We didn’t have space for dessert as this was so filling and will try their special desserts sometime sooner in the next visits. Overall the food and the place was good, the service was top notch right from getting seated to explaining the menu and prompt service of the food. Highly recommend this place even if you are teetotaller, just for their amazing food and ambience.
